42 years of Woodstock: peace, love and music

August 15, 1969 Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music”, one of the most famous in rock history.

Weeks before the festival opened fire, waves of people-men, women and children came to the farm in Bethel, New York, to see marching bands to soloists and the cream of the era. Although lacking such groups as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Bob Dylan, the festival was just a sign of luxury among which were Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane, a very young Carlos Santana, Credence Clearwater Revival and many more.

Surely, a show that will be remembered as the biggest musical event ever staged and icon of a generation of young Americans weary of war and proclaiming peace and love for a living.

MTV 30 years later

Thirty years after, a little music station is now a whole empire which operates and owns channels like Nickelodeon, VH1 and a package of digital services including MTV Jams, MTV Hits, VH1 Soul and VH1 Classic, in addition to branches in nine regions of the planet.

Its programming has changed greatly and is no longer just a music video channel, but has given preference to other types of channels, the so-called reality shows.

But when was the best time of MTV, if there ever was such? I think it was maybe at the late 80′s when it represented a certain music producer culture, the the real culture of musicians creative, dynamic and legendary.

Then, in a logical way, it was distorted as a result of our consumer society….The channel has created a new form of promotion and announced record programs, now classics, such as Beavis & Butthead and MTV Unplugged.

MTV 30 years after, let’s bring up some memories. In 1982 the release of  ”Thriller” by Michael Jackson. … It was the most expensive video of music history, perhaps the world’s most popular, maybe a part of  our own cultural heritage. MTV was our music platform, as it was for Madonna,  the whole tribe of eighties music, many of this videos were spectacular and rather controversial…

Do we want more reality shows or music? More music!
